Three generations, twelve carpenters, one city
The family business started in 1959. Today Bygga is twelve carpenters in Stavanger, and three generations of tradespeople have passed through along the way.
Bathrooms, extensions, roof lifts and full home renovations are what they do most of — jobs where they are inside someone's home, often for weeks at a time.
Jan Ove Brynie is foreman and master builder. He is the one who goes out on the site visit, and the one who sets the price afterwards.
Bathrooms, extensions and roof lifts leave no room for rough measurements
The three things Bygga does most of have one thing in common: the measurements have to be right before the first nail goes in. A bathroom needs a fall to the drain, a membrane and a tile format that works out. An extension has to meet an existing structure. A roof lift affects how the house carries its load.
Before, all of this started with a tape measure, a pencil and a sketch. Then Jan Ove sat at the office afterwards and typed the same thing in again.
One man on site, the whole team with something to work from
Bygga has used the tool since spring 2025. Jan Ove scans the room with his iPhone. Measurements, a floor plan and a 3D model come out of it, and what he says out loud along the way becomes a structured description he can send on the same day.
He is the only one who goes out on site visits. What the rest of the team works from comes from there.
