One man puts together both the team and the price
GM Byggtjeneste renovates houses and apartments in the greater Oslo area. Carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical work and flooring in the same delivery, with over 40 years of experience in the trade.
Geir Moen is the managing director. His job is to put the right team together for each project and to deliver the price. Both start with the site visit, and he goes on it alone.
Previously the visit ended with a tape measure and a set of drawings done by hand. It took time he would rather have spent on clients and on the projects already under way.
An hour a room adds up quickly
GM has worked this way since the summer of 2025.
— Previously I had to measure every room and create floor plans manually. Now I just scan the rooms with my phone, get floor plans, and find the right price level. The app makes my inspections much simpler, he says.
— On a single room we can save around an hour. On a whole apartment it can easily be five to six hours. That has real value for us, says Moen.
Five to six hours is not an afternoon. It is a working day, every time a price has to be given on an apartment. And it is a working day nobody pays for.
The report that decides who gets the job
In a bidding round, three prices look much the same on paper. The difference lies in what the client gets alongside the price.
Quantity take-offs and a 3D model give the client something to look at, and something to talk from. It makes the project conversation shorter and safer for both parties.
